There are models that mop and charge themselves this is an option that is essential for families with pets or children. A lot of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dustbin of the robot after it has filled up.
Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we test. It can get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of constant usage. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.
2. IRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. best robot vacuums will eliminate the need for regular maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot through the app or via voice.
The i7+ is faster and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered with seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to suck up large dust and crumbs. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It swiftly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.
This model also has docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's main drawback is its short running time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a standard battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. This is enough time to vacuum the typical home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second pass usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an affordable model that's a good option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top picks, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and often runs out of battery power before making it back to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better able to navigate itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most reasons, since it has a better battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable and has a stronger motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a wider array of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to comprehend and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it wasn't particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a problem for certain shoppers.
The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature lets you check in on your children or pets while you are away. The filter and the dustbin can be washed for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean and tidy station that self-empties, which helps keep the robot's trash bin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Contrary to other robotic vacuums that are specifically designed for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. The robots have an extra wide cleaning path and dust bins that are 2X larger than the competition. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. They also come with two side sweepers for cleaning along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's picking up dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also has a smart app that lets you see the virtual map and manage functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and return it to its dock for charging by pressing the button. The app allows you to alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can discern where it is focusing or if it's stuck.
The app allows you to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug, for example is darkly colored that could cause trouble for other robots. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
